Brief history of Helen.

Helen Duncan is probably one of the most famous and gifted physical mediums in the history of spiritualism, her gifts enabled the spirit people to actually perform full bodied manifestations.

During the 1930s & 1940s Helen was travelling the length of Britain giving people demonstrations of physical manifestations in their churches and home circles. All this was achieved whilst Helen was in a deep trance state which allowed the ectoplasm to ooze from here, creating the full bodied manifestation of the sitters loved ones. One event which left to a dark period in her life was the materialisation of a dead sailor from His Majesty's Ship "Barham" who appeared and announced the fate of himself and the ship three months before it was officially reported by the authorites. Because of the paranoia of the British authorities during war time Britain many people in charge were worried that she was either some sort of spy or that she had the potential to release sensitive information regarding the D-Day Normandy Landings. With paranoia brewing, one of her séances was infiltrated by plain clothes police officers masquerading as members of the public. The officers stood up during the séance and made a grab for the ectoplasm but fortunately this time round the spirit world was able to dematerialise the substance before they could catch it.

She was then arrested and charged with an old 1735 witchcraft Act and accused of taking money for fraudulent purposes, she was then sent to the notorious Holloway prison whilst they built a case against her. Her defence wisely decided that the best way to prove her gifts were real was to demonstrate physical manifestation in the witness box. This panicked the defence in case she actually pulled it off because their intentions weren't really to proof if she was genuine or not but to lock her away as they believed she had the potential to give away sensitive war time secrets, which was never how Helen worked. Her only crime was to give evidence of life after death. Anyway, in the end the courts decided that she was plain dishonest and sent her to prison for nine months.

After her release Helen had a strong calling from the spirit world to continue her work, but things were to get much worse as her gift and loyalty to serve eventually killed her.

In November 1956 Police raided a séance she was giving, during the proceedings a plain clothed policeman stood up and blew his whistle to signal the start of the raid, at this point the Police committed the worst possible sin when working with physical manifestation, they grabbed the medium whilst she was in a trance. This caused the ectoplasm to retract into her with so much speed that it caused second degree burns across here stomach. She was rushed to hospital but died of her injuries five weeks later.
